The June Mixtape
{Previous Mixes}

Whistle while you work. At least to the sounds of “Whistler’s Delight” a mashup of famous whistles from songs and themes to start off this month’s mix. A lot of hip-hop is here, more than in the last few months combined. All new stuff, as summer seems to ask for hip-hop jams. So check out Outkast, Ice Cube, Snoop and Tha Dogg Pound and my favorite Pharrell with Kanye West on “No. 1.”

Also new, is “And It Rained All Night” from Thom Yorke of Radiohead’s upcoming solo debut. This is not the lead single but a really cool album cut. It fits well in between a deconstructed Wolfmother remix and Iceland’s The Knife, whose singer made a great splash on last year’s “What Else Is There” by Royksopp.

New indie rock bands too. Every Move a Picture from SF, featured here before but soon out with a full album; The Pink Spiders, a Nashville (what is it with that city?) pop punkish outfit produced by The Cars' Ric Ocasek; and Lostprophets, an upbeat set of rockers with new wave haircuts.
