The February Mixtape
{Previous Mixes}

After a few months of new music drought, there is enough now to make the first mixtape of 2006. As always it is available for downloading and discovery.

Not everything is 100% brand new of course. Some have been with me for awhile like Fall Out Boy, Pharrell and Bloc Party. And there's this really old new wave dance track by Underworld. But several are from bands I just heard of — Professor Murder, Boy Kill Boy, Hatchback. It's good to see new music from Mount Sims and William Orbit and the debut from She Wants Revenge finally gets released (with a nice album cover of an underwear clad woman). We've been into them since the summer, this is their third time appearing on a mixtape.

Pharrell Williams - Angel
Fall Out Boy - Dance, Dance
Bloc Party - Two More Years
Every Move a Picture - On the Edge of Something
Spoon - Was it You?
Hard-Fi - Cash Machine
Arctic Monkeys - When the Sun Goes Down
Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Depeche Mode - I Want it All
Hatchback and Friends - Passport
She Wants Revenge - These Things
Mount Sims - Somnabulist
Underworld - Underneath the Radar
William Orbit - Surfin
Professor Murder - Champion
Eminem - Shake That

At 65 minutes, this mix is rather brisk compared to previous ones. But there was a lot of editing, going from 40 potentials to these 16. As these mixtapes are shared by more and more people, I work to make them tight. They should be filled with necessary sounds to represent now. Not filler or new tunes that suck just for the sake of their being new.
