Panic! at the VMAs
The 2006 VMAs Live Coverage
Aug. 31 - What happened at this year's MTV Video Music Awards? How about some upsets (Kanye, Red Hots shut out), emerging new artists (Panic! at the Disco, Avenged Sevenfold, Fall Out Boy) and lots of bad hip hop performances. Not so hot on Jack Black either.
Check out the live blogging as it happened...
Yorke Worship
Come on, is Eraser really that great?
July 24 - I really wanted to love Thom Yorke of Radiohead's solo album The Eraser but couldn't. Some disagree with me as only weeks after it's debut it was added to a UK shortlist of the year's best albums. That seems rather fast and like they had their minds made up before they heard it. Come on now
Summer Music Discoveries
July 17 - Did you know that Mars Volta had a new CD coming out? What about Muse, Cut Chemist, Deadalus and The Roots? There has been little PR, so they came as discoveries. Also what about that new Thom Yorke?
Chart Watch: Death Conquers All
July 12 - Johnny Cash joins a long line of legends made more legendary through death as this week he notches his first No. 1 album since 1969. The album back then was Johnny Cash at San Quentin represented well in last year's Walk the Line, a film that probably helped garner the No. 1 debut for American V: A Hundred Highways. read more

The Gayest Songs of All Time
My iPod has long had a playlist called "gay songs" where I stash the most embarrassing love ballads and pop trash. That's what I mean by "gay," the sixth grade usage of the word referring to lameness and sappiness. see the playlist
Coachella
is about choices
May 1 - I
only made it to the first day of the Coachella
music festival, which meant missing Tool, Madonna
and Bloc Party on Sunday. But we did see Wolfmother,
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Kanye West, Sigur Ros,
Franz Ferdinand, Depeche Mode and Daft Punk. read

Pre-Coachella:
Depeche Mode album review
Apr. 28 - For
those in So. Cal, this weekend is the one of the
largest and most eclectic concert events of the
year. The 2-day annual Coachella
Valley music and arts festival. As a
tribute to Saturday night's headliner Depeche
Mode here is a review of their new album Playing
the Angel provided by Behrad Karbassi.

Rick Rubin: Super Producer
Metallica's
last album St.
Anger kind of sucked. So the news that
Rick Rubin is producing their next album
is a promising sign of a recharge. But I've
also read that Rubin is producing Linkin
Park,
Justin Timberlake and the Red Hot Chili Pepper's
new albums. How can one dude do
so much?
Hippie
Time Warp
What's
with this new scene of soft singer/songwriter
psychedelia? It has been called by many
names - "neo-psychedelic," "avant-folk," "freak-folk," or
even "the new weird America," by the
Brits. The heroes are Iron & Wine, Sufjan Stevens,
Antony & the Johnsons, Connor Oberst of Bright
Eyes and Devendra Banhart. more
