George Lazenby: One Night Only
1969

Poor George Lazenby. No one knew him before he took the license to kill from Sean Connery and no one knows him since. 1969's On Her Majesty's Secret Service is considered one of the stronger Bond films by purists but audiences did not spark to the 29-year old Lazenby (that was young!) in the role. Connery came back for the next film Diamonds are Forever before walking away again.
The picture is pretty cool, a swinging James Bond. But he clearly was not "here to stay." Also on the cover is a bit about the only other "'gay' cowboy movie" that is not Brokeback Mountain, Midnight Cowboy although it was set in NYC. The stories about Diana Ross and her Supremes breakup and the Herbie: The Love Bug race scenes show how little things change beyond the names. You could substitute Beyonce and Destiny's Child and the race scenes from Talladega Nights and run it today.
